Important information

The resort is independently powered by a solar system with a back-up generator (no Eskom power) for the convenience of our guests and to further improve security. However, to maintain the batteries we need our guests’ support therefor please limit electrical use to lights, cell phone chargers and fans in summer and spring between 18h00 – 07h00 and autumn and winter between 17h00 – 08h00. Please do not use oven, electrical kettles, air fryers etc at night. HEATERS ARE NOT ALLOWED!

Hyacinths are present in the Roodekoppies dam, but we do our utmost best to control the spread to protect the dam for future sustainable fishing. Should hyacinths be present at our bank (depending on the wind direction) the removal of the hyacinths is treated as a priority to ensure the bank is fishable. The percentage hyacinths present on the water is less than 5%.

Water weed sludge is also a challenge from time-to-time. This is the thick layer of dead water grass that builds up near the bank. For a more comfortable fishing experience place a fish pen about 15 meters into the water, standing upright with a V-shape at the top. Lay your line around 15 – 20 cm above the water surface and attach a back lead and gently thread the line down into the water beyond the sludge zone. This keeps your line clear and elevated over the weeded area and only pulls it down once you’re past the problem zone – avoiding tangles from both waterweed sludge and hyacinths. It’s a small setup that makes a big difference!

There are crocodiles in the dam which has been there for over 25 years, and a few hippos have also been spotted recently. The dam is their territory and needs to be respected therefore swimming in the dam is prohibited. At our resort we have not had any incidents with regards to crocodiles or hippos.

Security is a priority, and we have improved our security by having access control, fencing and surveillance cameras. We do request our guests to also be vigilant and not to take unnecessary risks by leaving high value items exposed. For the past few years, we have not experienced security problems at the resort.
